Singapore’s skyline may shimmer with glass and steel, but beneath that polished surface lies a growing heart for sustainability. From government-linked enterprises to start-ups, the nation is cultivating a corporate culture where purpose thrives alongside profit.

At the 2025 Sustainability Impact Awards, Keppel Ltd. took home Impact Enterprise of the Year for its remarkable transformation. Once associated with oil rigs and heavy industry, Keppel is now investing in hydrogen-compatible power plants and clean energy imports. “We are aligning our business model to the needs of a low-carbon future,” said Keppel’s CEO Loh Chin Hua. This shift represents not only business foresight but also national alignment with Singapore’s Green Plan 2030.

Meanwhile, the ComfortDelGro Group has accelerated its transition toward an electric fleet, while FairPrice Group has reduced plastic use through reverse vending machines and eco-friendly logistics. Hospitality leaders like UOL Group and Pan Pacific Hotels are embedding sustainability into their design — rooftop solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and on-site food digesters. These initiatives show that every industry can be part of the green solution.

Minister Chee Hong Tat, speaking at the awards, captured this spirit: “It takes strong partnerships across the public, private and people sectors to scale solutions for greater impact.” His words mirror a national ethos where collaboration is key. The government continues to enhance frameworks like the Energy Efficiency Grant and Green Mark certifications, ensuring that sustainable practices are accessible, measurable, and economically viable.

Even SMEs are making their mark. Companies like Pollen Tech and WeavInsight are leveraging innovation to tackle waste and energy efficiency. Their agility demonstrates that sustainability is not limited to large corporations — it’s a shared responsibility across all business sizes.

At the financial level, DBS Bank continues to lead sustainable financing, reporting a 37% increase in green loans and bonds last year. CEO Piyush Gupta remarked, “Sustainability is not just part of our business strategy — it is our business strategy.”

In Singapore, every garden planted, every rooftop solar panel installed, and every innovation shared contributes to a collective national vision. The country’s strength lies in its ability to blend precision, planning, and purpose — proving that even a city built on limited land can grow infinite possibilities.
