Gas Malaysia Brings Ramadan Relief to Underprivileged Communities

Corporate social responsibility often takes the form of long-term programs and large-scale investments. But sometimes, its most meaningful moments come from something simple: making sure a family has enough to eat during a season that calls for togetherness. This was the spirit behind Gas Malaysia Berhad's recent Ramadan outreach initiative.

As part of its ongoing MMC Prihatin programme, Gas Malaysia distributed 250 Kotak Prihatin, or care boxes, to asnaf recipients at Masjid Al-Azhariah in Section 18, Shah Alam. Each box was packed with essential items designed to ease the daily financial pressures many families face, particularly during Ramadan, when household expenses tend to rise.

The contributions were presented by Gas Malaysia's Executive Vice President of Group Technical Services, Encik Noor Ilias Mohd Idris, together with Senior Vice President of Corporate Services, Cik Noraishah Mohd Radzi. Their presence at the handover reflected the company's commitment to staying connected with the communities it serves, not just through statements, but through direct engagement.

The initiative did not stop there. In the same spirit of giving, Gas Malaysia also distributed daily necessities, including rice, sugar, cooking oil, and spices, to underprivileged residents of Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Kerinchi. For many households in these public housing communities, the timing of such support can make a real difference in stretching a tight household budget through the festive month.

These efforts form part of a broader push by Gas Malaysia to improve quality of life among underprivileged communities across Malaysia. Beyond Ramadan relief, the company has also backed education-focused programs, including a contribution to the Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (YPM) Smart Tuition Programme, aimed at supporting B40 students preparing for their SPM examinations, as well as environmental efforts such as mangrove tree planting in Selangor.

Together, these initiatives point to a CSR approach that looks beyond a single event or donation. They reflect a sustained effort to address immediate needs while investing in the long-term wellbeing of the communities Gas Malaysia operates alongside.

For the families who received care boxes and daily necessities this Ramadan, the impact was immediate and tangible. But initiatives like these also send a broader message: that corporate responsibility, at its best, is not just about visibility or compliance. It is about showing up for the communities that make a company's continued success possible, especially during the times they need it most.
